Australian Steam

Published by Chris Draper at 7:52 AM under Other Railway visits | Steam Locomotives

Spent some time in Australia for work last week and stayed on for the weekend. Saturday had a wonderful day of Driver experience at the Victorian Goldfields Railway, a preserved branchline driving a broad guage J class steam locomotive.

WONDERFUL

Sunday I was lucky to be a guest of Colin & Nancy Campbell at the Campbelltown Miniature Railway and was invited to drive Tony Howker's lovely LMS Black Five.

Here's a recent picture of Colin & Nancy I found on the web - My pictures to follow as soon as I am settled back in NZ and can unload the camera.

Five Inch Opening

Published by Chris Draper at 4:33 PM under Operating Days

Feb 2008 saw the official opening of the new dual guage track. Most of the Hillside branch was in place and we steamed Steve's number 24 for a family picnic day of fun

Winter Creek Junction Construction Gallery

Published by Chris Draper at 4:10 PM under Track Construction

Winter Creek junction was built summer 2010 in the push toward finishing the mainline. It will be a focus point on the mainline as trains gather strength before tackling the heavy grade to the summit - where the Hillside branch joins the main.

Tunnel Construction Photo Gallery

Published by Admin at 3:55 PM under Track Construction

Here is a series of photos showing construction methods for the tunnel. It was built by myself in 2005 for the original 7.25" only line, and marks the spot where the new dual guage line meets the original alignment through the tunnel, around horseshoe curve known as South Bend and across bridge 4.

New Website

Published by Chris Draper at 4:31 PM under Train Advice Notices

Welcome to the new look Winter Creek website. The construction of the railway continues to generate a lot of interest and this development is designed to make it easier to search for the photographs and articles you are most interested in. Comments and feedback are now possible - please use these facilities so I can transform this site into a useful resource for other home builders.

Im busy uploading the photographs from the old site as a series of galleries which should make it easier to see the construction sequence of any aspect of the Winter Creek

Ive just checked the reporting for the last couple of months. Seems our hobby is truly international as we have regular visitors from NZ, Australia, USA, UK, Canada, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Argentina and Latvia.
