Website Contact Issue

Published by Admin at 9:37 AM under Train Advice Notices

Hi all - last couple of contacts via this site have come through with invalid return email addresses.

The first one I put down to typos, but now there are two I a suspicious that the is a problem with the way the site records them.

If you have attempted to contact me or wish to correspond - please do so via the facebook page, as I no longer trust the website's email redirection.

Cheers

November 15 Update

Published by Admin at 12:37 PM under

Been busy working on bits of my loco that arent very photogenic, and while Noel has been slowly dismantling & cleaning the Brit in prep for a new boiler certificate not much has been done on the railway - until this last couple of weekends. Pulled out the stops and cut-realigned and re-welded tracks 2 and 3 at the junction as well as completing the retaining wall - more of a cover really as the bank can hold itself up. Decided to do something a little different - using steel standards and boards to get an old rails and timber repair look. Think it has come out ok.

Safety Rules for a Private Railway

Published by Admin at 6:41 AM under

Yes I know it seems all a bit PC, but the Health and Safety situation in NZ has got to the point that if you are not seen to be guarding against idiot behaviour then you are very much liable. So I decided to put together a simple one-sheet set of rules for passsenger visitors, Drivers, Equipment Owners and adopt best practice. We were already doing this, now its just written down as proof of how we work.

Feel free to copy/borrow/use for your own railways as you see fit.

Here's a few snaps taken over the past few weeks. Its wet and cold this time of year on the Winter Creek, so not a lot of activity. However Winter can surprise with lovely days every now and again!

Peter's Baldwin is Published

Published by Admin at 1:59 PM under

Peter Phelan has been building a WW1 Baldwin loco - as used in the trenches - for the past few years and is almost ready to steam it here at the Winter Creek.

Peter and his loco have already appeared in the local paper as an interest item for Anzac Day celebrations, and here is the article penned by his good friend Gerry for the Welsh Highland Railway magazine "The Journal"

WCR Appearance on RailScene DVD 83

Published by Admin at 3:13 PM under Operating Days

Lindsay and Janet of Majik Video fame visited the Winter Creek during a recent steam up. They both enjoyed driving various locomotives - definitely a relaxing day out. However Lindsay took some video and has included about 2mins of the Winter Creek in the latest Railscene. I'm pleased he extended the usual invitation to anyone who wants to learn how to build their own loco.

You can watch it here: http://youtu.be/W5Jg1kTvMeA

Please Support Lindasy and Janet and the great work they do to capture, preserve and inform on current New Zealand Rail Scene happenings. I've been a fan for many years.

Other RailScene titles can be found at http://www.majikvideo.com/nzrailscene.php

Cheers.
