April 2015 Steam Up

Published by Admin at 2:17 PM under Britannia | Operating Days | Signalling System

After a heavy nights rain Sat 11th dawned bright and sunny - perfect conditions for a steam up with little chance of starting fires (we have been under a total fire ban until very recently)

Had a total of six trains running simultaniously at times, and the experimental signal detectors and last minute logic changes worked far better than expected. Thanks Noel!

Also had a number of visitors throughout the day and I think everyone enjoyed themselves. Thats what it's all about!

Below are some interesting photos, and Noel took a video of a complete lap:

Something tells me there will be more video of the Winter Creek apearing in the next couple of months - stay tuned for news!

Labour Weekend Activity

Published by Admin at 1:58 PM under Britannia | Operating Days | Signalling System | Track Construction

Two days and a good turnout made all the difference this Labour weekend just past. Saturday saw a good turnout and plenty of activity from track maintenance to new retaining, wiring, cable and drainage ducts and a fair amount of surveying. Rod arrived with family and friends to help - much appreciated guys - thanks! Sadly I was too slow with the camera to capture all the action. Here are the few pics I did take.

Steam Up October 5, 2014

Published by Admin at 4:27 PM under Britannia | Operating Days | Signalling System

Had a the first run of Spring here yesterday. Tony was over for a conference and had a day spare to run his Brit. Rod steamed his Ab for the first time (see seperate post)

I have also included a photo of the prototype signal that Peter has built for the WCR.

Now the weather is getting better we expect to be more active more regularly on the track so post frequency should increase!

Video of Britannia's first run

Published by Chris Draper at 7:49 PM under Britannia | Operating Days | Steam Locomotives

Noel captured these two clips of Britannia's first run. For those unfamiliar with the WCR the bridge featured in the first shot is on a 1in40 downgrade with pointwork not far off the bottom edge. Being the first run I was also unfamiliar with the locos braking characteristics so was taking it extra cautious.

Creeping across bridge one

The second shot is on the uphill grade and it was a joy to hear her exhaust beat. I look forward to putting a load on the drawbar and really making her bark!

Steaming The Britannia for the First Time.

Published by Chris Draper at 10:22 AM under Operating Days | Steam Locomotives | Britannia

It has been a wet Labour weekend - but that did not stop us having fun.

Grant (of Squirrel Valley Fame) came up for the weekend and we ran the wheels off the rolling stock between showers.

Steamed the Britannia for the first time on Sunday Morning - it was raining so hard we had to do so in the confines of the shed.

Noel turned up just after lunch, and the rain had eased so we decided to do a few laps. Four hours later we were still going when the weather packed in again and we called it a day with a beer.
